Waxing/Polishing Is So Yesterday

While we don't know the percentage of car owners that still wax their cars compared to those who choose car coating, we do know most car owners wax or polish. It is not even close...my guess is that 80 to 85% of car owners still wax!  This is wrong on so many levels that I want to try to explain now.

First, over time polishing and waxing destroy the clear coat that sits on top of your car paint.  Once the clear coat has been compromised, it is only a matter of time before the paint really start to fade via oxidation AND paint actual decomposes.  This is why you see so many cars that are more than 5 or 8 years old that look faded and old.  They don't shine any more.

In the modern era, many of us don't wax or polish like in our parent's generation...we take it to a car wash that also polishes our cars.  Many in Asia do this.  These car wash companies rub or polish before they put on the wax.  They use buffers and machines and these machines really rub off the clear coat quickly.  You can see the swirls on the car.  These swirls are actually scars on the clear coat.  They are small nicks and cuts into the soft clear coat...and they are the  first wave of damage that starts.
